Author Interviews (Pt. 1): Z King

Z King is a dear friend of mine so when I decided that I wanted to revamp this blog of mine by adding author and writer interviews I couldn’t resist featuring her in the first one in the series… especially since she is finally publishing her work publicly! Continue reading to learn more:

Welcome to Pavo Oronisi…

Today marks a very special occasion: The Outlaw Princess authored by Z King is officially available to begin reading on Wattpad. The first three chapters are now published and will continue to be published on a weekly basis until the entire book is released on March 23rd. TOP is the first in an ongoing serial that will be exclusive to the popular publishing platform.

For fans of The Starchaser Saga by Renee Dugan and The Dragon Prince.

A princess - youngest amongst her siblings - is blamed for the death of her mother and sent away to a neighboring kingdom in order to establish a treaty. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned.

A Bit About Z King…

An earth sign, King is a lover of Greek Mythology and spends much of her time at the beach (or at least thinking about it). She loves the color blue and the two 12s on the clock are her favorites in the day. And she may have another series in the works…

You can connect with her on her Instagram (@authorzking) and through Wattpad (@authorzking).

What has been the biggest struggle you have faced with this project?

My MC's father figure. He is a dominating force in her life (and not in the best way) so conveying his maliciousness is very difficult.

In what ways has this project changed you?

Ari and her brother have definitely taught me that a bond of siblings is one of the best feelings ever. While Ari is strong, she's not a pushover and knows what she likes/doesn't like and while she has been through a lot, she always gets back up and I think that's a good life lesson - no matter what life throws at you, no matter how much the gods torture you, getting back up is really the only option. Because if you stay down, you allow them to win and then where do you go from there?

What is your number one piece of advice for other writers?

Lean into your chaos! Allow whatever wants to happen, happen. You can ALWAYS go back and edit!

How do you prioritize your mental health when writing?

😅 um, well, I suck at that but I have started journaling which has helped declutter my brain so much!

What media (film, t.v., literature, etc.) has inspired you? In this project and/or in others?

Oh, wow, so many! But for this project specifically? I would say The Dragon Prince GREATLY inspired the different species you can find on Pavo Oronisi!

What is your favorite part about the writing process and why?

Worldbuilding, hands down. I love creating worlds and characters. I end up going so far down that rabbit hole, I do it far more than writing 😂

*commentary from me (Lucy): I can confirm that Z loves worldbuilding. Most of the emails I get are Pinterest board invitations lol.*

How have past successes and failures influenced how you approached your upcoming novel?

I have learned a lot about my own writing these past few years and one thing that has always stood out to me is that while I love to write, I don't want to make it a career. I don't want to take the magic out of it. I think all books deserve their moment! But for me, where I am right now, I don't think publishing is in the cards.

And since taking off that pressure, I have managed to get SO much writing in! I feel like we - as authors - often put too much pressure on ourselves when we have a specific goal in mind and that can really hinder our progress; which can lead us down the terrible rabbit hole of depression. (Which I try to avoid at all cost).

Final Words:

Thank you so much to Z King for allowing me to interview her and I wish her the greatest success in the release of her work, The Outlaw Princess. Go check it out on Wattpad now!
