Writer Interviews (Pt. 3) Mylo
Mylo and I are friends on Instagram and I am so excited to have the chance to interview them!
Aspiring Author
Mylo is an author of mystery, contemporary, high fantasy, urban fantasy and has publishing aspirations though they are still in the process of writing.
What has been the biggest struggle that you have faced as a writer?
Probably actually writing, forming sentences, thinking about sentences. The description and not only dialogues. Not criticising my work so fast when I’m at my second draft.
What are you working on now? Please share as much as you are comfortable with.
I’m working on my current project called Bird Squad Series which follows 6 best friends who solve mysteries together. Each of the friend gets their own book and I’m making bundles of stories as extras as well. The first book is called Raven Heart and I’m currently on Draft 2!!
What is your number one piece of advice for other writers?
Find a writing buddy to talk to your projects about and ask them for advice every now and then. It’s always good to ask for advice or have someone to help you along the way. It’s unnecessary to do this alone.
How do you prioritize your mental health when writing?
I take breaks whenever I need it. I don’t like taking breaks, but if I sit down to write and my brain doesn’t actually start to form sentences, I know this is not the day to do it and I won’t force it.
What media (film, t.v., literature, etc.) has inspired you?
I watched a lot of tv growing up and I still do. Cartoons like Scooby Doo and Ultimate Spiderman really shaped me as I am, as well as disney and nickelodeon shows like Boy Meets World, iCarly, and many others. As for movies I think Star Wars and Marvel inspired me to start creating.
What is your favorite part about the writing process and why?
Creating characters and bonding with them. I’m emotionally attached to my characters in some way and like to really step into their shoes when writing. I also really enjoy writing short stories outside the main novels, to help myself through the actual story.
How have past successes and failures influenced how you approach writing?
I’m not always confident with my writing and I’m not sure that will change, but I have some friends that really want to see the ending and that encourages me to try and write anyway.
I also have a lot of issues with emotions and good descriptions so I have a couple of friends that guide me through it and help me on what can be better or even deleted!
Sometimes when I’m in a writing slump I wanna hide away and later start over (don’t start over if you haven’t finished your first draft yet) but instead of not writing anything or deleting everything I started to write fanfiction of random media to at least stay writing and let creativity flow. It really helps.
Final Words:
Thank you so much to Mylo for allowing me to interview him!
